Kattowitz (Katowice)

[1] Steatyt Wytwórnia Wyrobów Ceramicznych (1947 until 1953)

The second porcelain factory in Bogutschütz was established in 1947. It's owner, Mr. Zygmunt Buksowicz, later also signed responsible for most designs. Originally, the product range included technical porcelain only, but production of regular tableware and decorative porcelain was taken up from 1950 onwards and proved so successful that the production of technical products was completely dropped by 1953.

[2] Steatyt Wytwórnia Wyrobów Ceramicznych, Zygmunt Buksowicz (1954 until 1975)

What made this manufacturer so special was that it remained an independent and privately-owned business. As such, the factory pretty much ignored common standards and offered a fresh alternative to the boring product ranges of the dominant nationalized factories. With other words, the factory covered the whole spectrum between 'avantgardistic' items on the one side and pure 'kitsch' on the other.

[3] Wytwórnia Wyrobów Ceramicznych, Zygmunt Buksowicz (1975 until 1989)

Towards the middle of the 1970s it was obvious that it would be necessary to restructure parts of the factory and its product range, simply to stay competitive.

[4] Wytwórnia Wyrobów Ceramicznych, Z. Buksowicz & U. Rzepecka (1989 until 1993)

As result, the factory owners also looked for new partners, like Mr. U. Rzepecka.

[5] Steatyt Wytwórnia Wyrobów Ceramicznych, Z. Buksowicz, U. Rzepecka, A. Chmiel (1993 until 1994)

Yet another partner, A. Chmiel, joined in 1993.

[6] Steatyt Wytwórnia Wyrobów Ceramicznych, E. Buksowicz, U. Rzepecka, A. Chmiel (1994 until ....)

In 1994 Zygmunt Buksowicz was replaced by E. Buksowicz. Even if the factory had its most productive era during the 1960s and 1970s, it was in the year 2013 still recognized to be one of the most influential design icons of the Silesian province. Over time, the factory from Kattowitz produced a large variety of figurines, lamps, vases, tea- and coffee sets, pin dishes, ashtrays, etc., just to name a few items.
