As regular visitors will have noticed, this website underwent a huge overhaul at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024. These changes are listed in the 2023 changelog.
Due to real-life issues, not all segments could be updated in time: the marks formerly stored in the Unidentified Marks sections are not currently online, but will return as part of the Marks Multiverse update. If all goes well, this will take the form of a searchable database, as we are talking about well over 500 different marks.
While I am ironing out the kinks, I will first concentrate on upgrading all provided images to a resolution of 400x400px for "right-click/show as" and similar functions. At the same time, I will correct my corresponding internal CSV text files, which may not be required for the Metaverse update, but will definitely be required for a later system-wide database.
The reason for holding back the Metaverse update is my workload. I need to allow myself enough spare time for my other work, such as answering emails, my forum work, and maintaining the Edelstein and Heinrich & Co. reference tables, which I co-host with two authors who live in different time zones. I would like to finish some other things first before continuing work on the Metaverse job.
A good example of a forced break: I received information regarding the factories in Schönwald (Bavaria), which are not yet included. This information proved that the commonly known publications regarding the history of Schönwald AG, as well as its factory structure, are misleading/incorrect. I therefore updated/corrected the entry on E.&A. Müller in Schwarza, but I had to check and evaluate all the other marks used in this context, including E.&A. Müller subsidiary in Schönwald, as well as Schönwald AG itself. As these entries had already been prepared for inclusion in an upcoming update, I also had to rewrite the corresponding web files. All of this took a whole week, during which I could not continue updating the image sets and CSV files.
Work status as of 2024-12-30:
This leaves one major issue: the top navigation bar is still too small on some mobile devices (not my fault), which is probably due to an interpretation or nesting bug. The solution is to rewrite the menu script completely as soon as the other minor and medium issues have been resolved.
