I wanted to install an update on 2017-02-01 and my desktop power supply, which is less than two years old, blew a fuse. Luckily, the other hardware was not affected. The Thermaltake unit I received as a replacement should last longer. Still, I'm a day behind the deadline... argh!
Finished the rather underestimated archive revamping job and updated the To-Do lists based on the additions and changes I made over the last year. The next update will include the sections on unidentified and misrepresented marks, as I have quite a few additions and changes to make to these.
Over the past year, I have noticed that some emails I sent in reply were neither confirmed nor answered when I requested further information or images. However, people have already reported elsewhere that Gmail sometimes fails to deliver. I always reply to emails, except for those that do not contain "PMM" in the subject line, or those that ask for an evaluation of objects, as clearly stated on my Contact Me page.
On another note, please bear in mind that family lore is not a reliable source of information. Last year, a few people turned down valid historical information simply because their family lore told a different story. If a factory did not exist until 12 years after a relative claimed to have purchased an item, you should admit that something is amiss. The same applies to WW2 US soldiers who claimed to have acquired an item directly from the decorator's table at the factory, even though it is evident that US forces never came near the factory (which was deep in Soviet-occupied territory at that time). Finally, an item bearing a mark from a different period may simply have been replaced by a relative who accidentally dropped the original and wanted to avoid a family dispute. In any case, people should bear in mind that a family member may not always have told the truth, or the story may have become distorted over time.
2017-03-31: At 08:50 this morning, an explosion tore apart a house across the street (view first picture). A neighbour with a long-standing history of threatening others caused a gas explosion after receiving an eviction notice. Two people were slightly injured, the perpetrator received third-degree burns and a 36-year-old nurse was killed.
2017-05-19: The destroyed house has been partially demolished over the last few days (view second picture). The street is still completely blocked and there is lots of noise all day. Houses #1 (to the left) and #5 (to the right) will most likely only require extensive repairs. The scaffolding on our side of the road protects those who still live here (and their houses) from falling debris, and of course it also allows easy access to the badly damaged roof, which was repaired shortly after the explosion.
Take care, wherever you are !
