This mark is said to date back to around 1880. This was once nothing more than pure guesswork, as most resellers had no idea what they were dealing with. In short, whatever resellers might tell you, this mark is not that old, nor is it a long-lost mark formerly used by a renowned factory. It has an ugly cousin, too!
Sure, one could assume that they both point towards an importer, distributor or retailer. However, neither of the two marks is referenced in any older material or publications on importers/distributors. Also, the terms/names used (Wallendar and Millar) do not make sense in German. The Millar mark in particular raises a few additional red flags. If you are interested, check out the Wallendar Austria mark listed as M090602.
If Americans find an item marked Raseville instead of Roseville, they would undoubtedly call it fake. In this case, the Bavarian city is actually named Bayreuth - with an "a" - not Beyreuth, as shown in the mark. If you take a closer look at the buildings in the logo, you will see that the stylised skyline is not Bayreuth's at all; it looks more like Nürnberg (Nuremberg). Go figure.
