Germany / Bavaria / Selb (Selb-Plößberg):

[1] : Porzellanfabrik Jacob Zeidler & Co. (1866 until 1917)

The factory was founded 1866 and concentrated on household items and restaurantware. Being very successful, the factory soon also produced for export and even provided own housing for employees. In 1912 Philip Rosenthal joined the company and in 1913 was already seen as owner; however it took until 1917 before he finally completely took over the factory.

[2] : Porzellanfabrik Rosenthal (1917 until 1971)

In 1917 the company was acquired by the 'Porzellanfabrik Rosenthal A.G.' also from Selb and from then on was run as the famous Rosenthal 'Kunstabteilung' (art department). The Plößberg part of Selb is also the location of the main train station; hence the subsidiary is frequently called 'Bahnhof Selb' (train station Selb). The factory itself remained operational until 1971; I am still wondering if I should add the Rosenthal art department marks under the planned 'Rosenthal' main entry or if I should include them here on this page.

Mark Comments:

Another mark used by the original factory was a simple 'Z.' which was used between 1887 and 1917.
