Introduction

Site navigation on PM&M is split into two sections: the horizontal menu at the top of the screen (which holds the less important pages) and the main menu on the left hand side. I believe that all entries are self-explanatory, but here is a small overview of the left menu:

'Resources' Section:

PM&M Site Search: Page that allows you to search the site contents via entered keywords or phrases.

Factory Index: Page showing all manufacturers included on this site so far in alphabetical town order. You can use your browser's search function (e.g. [CTRL]-[F] under Windows) to search for a manufacturer name without knowing the town or state.

Vocabulary Index: Page where many German terms are explained but normally these terms are directly linked with the vocabulary from inside the manufacturer history pages anyway.

Historical Notes: Notes on various events in history that will not be explained every time they are referred to from the normal pages, like the reason for the introduction of the 'Made in Germany' marking, etc.

British Reg. Marks: Short introduction and overview of British registration marks including the 'diamond' and normal number markings. This section was added as some German pieces actually were registered in the UK and therefore also show these kind of markings.

Book Errata: Page listing flaws and errors of reference books; only a few entries at the moment but more will be added later.

Unidentified Marks: Section containing all marks that I do not have any information on. All help in this area will be greatly appreciated and of course credit will be given for further information.

Fake & Repro Marks: Opens a page on mainly dubious marks you should be aware of.

'Main Menu' Section:

The Germany section is mainly what this site is all about and is divided into the different states of Germany. Now if you are looking for a mark which states 'Bavaria' for example, the first thing you should logically do is to visit the 'Bavaria' section. After you have selected 'Bavaria' by clicking on that, a menu will apear in the main part of the window showing the different towns and cities with the manufacturers there. My information is facility-based, so sometimes it can be that you have two or three entries in the same town. When you click on the manufacturers noted under a location, the history of the facility will open up followed by the marks, sorted after owner of the facility.

The captions for Bohemia and Moravia (both today Czech Republic), Lorraine (today France) and Silesia (today Poland) of course lead to the areas which either belonged to Germany at a certain time, were under strong German influence or were occupied by German forces during World War II. These sections are of course closely related to the German marks section but are kept as stand-alone areas.

Last in this menu is the caption for the U.S.A. which opens the list of US companies and locations related to German manufacturers either by importing or merely distributing the German (and related) products.

'Links' Section:

Manufacturer Links: Opens an alphabetically sorted page with links to manufacturer homepages.

Other Links: Wide array of links to sites and forums that specialize on different countries or manufacturers.
